Who we are

About Chesapeake Tribal Loans

Chesapeake-region, fact-first coverage of the sovereign market, with every licensed route from Maryland to Illinois priced beside it.

Chesapeake Tribal Loans covers small-dollar lending across Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, Washington DC, and Illinois with one rule: price every route honestly, starting with the cheapest legal one.

What this site does

We publish state rulebooks, product guides, calculators, and a request form that routes readers to participating lenders, including tribal lenders operating under sovereign charters. We are a referral service and an editorial one. We do not lend money, we do not make credit decisions, and we are not a lender.

How pages are built

Legal facts come from the statutes themselves and from the regulators who enforce them, from the Maryland Office of the Commissioner of Financial Regulation to the Office of the State Bank Commissioner in Delaware. Worked examples are recomputed from the numbers, not copied, and every page passes a reviewer before publication. When a rule changes, the pages that cite it change with it.

The people checking

Roscoe Tilghman, lead editor, spent six years underwriting consumer loans at an Eastern Shore credit union and prices every example on this site the way he priced a file. Lena Pindell is a certified credit counselor with nine years in Prince George’s County, and she reads every page for the question borrowers actually ask, which is rarely the one lenders answer.

Standards

We never promise approval, because no publisher can. We price sovereign tribal loans at their real 400% to 800% APR range even when cheaper-looking numbers would convert better. And corrections are welcome: if a figure or a statute citation is wrong, tell us through our contact page and we will fix it in the open.

One disclosure above all: we are not a tribe, we are not owned by a tribe, and we are not affiliated with any of the tribes whose lending charters appear in this market. The name describes the market we cover, nothing more.

Roscoe Tilghman

Lead editor, financial writer

Roscoe spent six years underwriting consumer loans at an Eastern Shore credit union before turning to consumer finance writing. He maintains the six-jurisdiction statute tables on this site and re-runs every worked cost example against the linked statutes before a page publishes.

Lena Pindell

Reviewer, credit counseling background

Lena worked nine years as a certified credit counselor in Prince George's County, helping households work out of short-term debt cycles. She reviews every money page here for the questions a counselor would ask: total cost, renewal risk, and which cheaper option to try first.
